THE SHARK FIN

I've have been a witness to this piece of landscape since I was a kid. Although I didn't know it at 2 years old, I would be orchestrating a plan to have skiers and snowboarders ride down this volcanic shark fin at sunrise 32 years later; the plan was in my head for over a decade.

You can see this rock from Highway 20, towards the top of the pass. Millions of people drive by the fin each year, many don't even see it. We went after this shot two separate times. First, we snow camped and woke up to socked in skies, tried anyway, but after six hours on top of this peak, in the clouds, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and Marissa Krawczak decided it was time to call it a day. 

The second attempt had us waking up at home at 11:30pm and leaving on our snowmobiles at 1:15AM. As you can see, this time the plan worked and Andrew Orlich enjoyed sunrise first tracks down The Shark Fin.

I love driving by this now more than ever.

I'm a couple miles away for this shot. I spend a lot of time alone when I'm shooting big mountain riding/skiing. Doesn't bother me at all.
